According to Jeunes Footeux, Everton are interested in Gent starlet Jonathan David.
What’s the word?
The Toffees only signed two attacking players last summer in the shape of Alex Iwobi and Moise Kean, with neither really showing why the club splashed the cash to bring them to Goodison Park – between them, they have scored just three goals in 44 appearances.
As such, it’s perhaps no surprise the Toffees are being linked with another forward-thinking player. Jeunes Footeux claim Gent’s versatile forward, David, has attracted interest from the Merseyside club, as well as the likes of Arsenal, Leicester and Lyon, amongst others.

The report claims that David – under contract with his current club under 2023 – could allow the Belgian side to “hit the jackpot” with a potential sale.
Goals
At just 20-years-old, the forward is already showing why he is being coveted by a number of major sides across Europe. He has a remarkable record of 21 goals in 35 games this season, not to mention his ten assists too.
All this, whilst also playing in four different positions. David has predominantly played in the number ten role, but has also featured as the centre-forward, second striker, and left-winger for Gent.
With only 34 goals in 26 Premier League games this season, Everton have the second-lowest total of goals in the top ten, only behind Sheffield United’s 28. So even despite having the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, the Toffees are struggling to find the back of the net on a regular basis.
Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think…
David’s goals from a number ten position could help ease the burden on both Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, and give Carlo Ancelotti’s side some much-needed extra firepower.
And if that wasn’t enough for Everton to consider making a swoop for the Canada international, then his comments in an interview published in Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuw should surely ensure he becomes a fan favourite.
He said (as quoted by Sport Witness): “I love all teams in the Premier League: Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, but also Southampton, Crystal Palace, Everton … I like nice teams. I’m just not a big fan of Liverpool.”
Talk about someone being absolutely primed to be a Toffees legend. A goal-scorer, and someone who admits to not being a big fan of the Reds. It’s a win-win situation for Everton to act on their interest in David.
Meanwhile, Everton must end their interest in this former Premier League ace.
