Manchester United fans will absolutely love what Ryan Giggs has said about reported target Daniel James.
According to Sky Sports, James has agreed personal terms with the Red Devils and United are close to agreeing a £15m fee for the Swansea starlet.
James has been superb this season for the Swans, scoring six and adding seven assists, including a stunning solo goal in the FA Cup against Brentford.
Still, there are doubts amongst the fan base about signing an unproven player from a mid-table Championship side.
Wales manager Giggs has surely quashed any such concerns though, heaping praise on the 21 year-old after naming him in the Welsh squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Who has been the Premier League’s most disappointing performer this season? The Pl>maker FC have their say in the video below…
What did he say?
“I think you don’t need to speak to me to see the quality of Dan,” Giggs said when asked if he had tipped the club to sign James, as reported by Manchester Evening News.
“Especially from the turn of the year, the transfer breaking down at Leeds, and then I think they played Leeds the week after.
“He has really cracked on and for me in the last game he was excellent. He is a talent.”
Fergie era mentality
If there were any worries at Old Trafford that James could not make the step up to a big club, there surely aren’t now.
Giggs not only praised the youngster’s ability here, but also his mental toughness, something that has been lacking in the red half of Manchester over the last few seasons, but was always present when Giggs and Sir Alex Ferguson were at the club.
Indeed, after his January move to Leeds collapsed at the last second, it would have been all too easy for the youngster to sulk and lose focus.
Instead, he put all his energy into proving his doubters wrong, and enjoyed a phenomenal second half to the campaign.
This elite mentality, combined with the raw speed to rip opponents to shreds in an instant, makes James the perfect signing for United, and who better for a winger to receive praise from than the one and only Welsh wizard.
The Red Devils have far too few players with this level of mental toughness at the moment, and if it shines through on the pitch, James will be a fan favourite in no time.
