With the January transfer window now just over a month away, it’s going to be intriguing to see if the Red Devils bring in any new faces. They’ve had a decent few weeks, but change will still be needed at Old Trafford in order to improve their fortunes.
Departures, too, are interesting, given the always-revolving player door at Man Utd, and the fact that many of their players have interesting contractual situations.
Man Utd’s situation is particularly murky, given that many of their players are said to have options within their current contracts that allow for a one-year extension.
However, one man that reportedly doesn’t have such an option is Ander Herrera, and it’s quickly becoming apparent that the Spaniard could depart Old Trafford sooner, rather than later.
Obviously, with a little over six months to go until his contract expires, that naturally raises concern that he could be on the verge of an exit. The Red Devils could look to cash-in in January, or if not, he could look to discuss a move with foreign clubs in the new year; or he could simply depart on a free next summer. Either way, his contractual security is at an all-time low.
The fact that Man Utd have yet to offer him fresh terms is a sign, of course, but his involvement on the field is perhaps even more of a hint at what could be to come. He’s started just 2 Premier League games this term, and with so much quality in the Man Utd midfield, it’s evident that he’s become a bit of a forgotten option in there.
It’s not even that he isn’t performing, it’s the simple fact that he isn’t even really getting a chance, and that spells bad news for the talented Spaniard.
Herrera is a good player, but he’s clearly not highly valued by Jose Mourinho, and a move away may be best for all parties.
Thoughts?
